Short facts about the County of Jämtland

• The County of Jämtland comprises eight local municipalities, distributed over the regions of Jämtland and Härjedalen. • The area has a population of around 128,000. • Jämtland has good rail connections, two airports, one of them an international airport, and a public road network totalling nearly 6,000 km. • The local industry has a solid base in the forest industry, tourism and the food sectors, which have always had a strong foothold in the area. Add to this the new technology companies, and you have a dynamic and progressive industrial base. • The Mid-Sweden University is situated in Jämtland, which also has ten schools that provide high school education. • Regular world-class sports events in Åre and Östersund, as well as the Storsjöyran festival and the Storsjö Monster, ensure an international exposure to the county’s activities.
