Everyday life in Sweden

I promised myself not to talk about the weather but it need to be said, last week was very cold… With -28 degrees Celsius it became a challenge to walk the dogs. Extra cloths, gloves, scarf and cap were barely enough to keep us warm. And what about the dogs? They just went on as always. Digging and rolling in the snow just having fun.

But the positive part was that we saw the northern light for the first time. Very special this time and in the beginning I thought that can’t be the northern light. We saw various light strokes going straight up in the air. No movement what so ever. It looked like someone shining with a huge lamp. But there was too many of that and the colours were green, orange, and bluish-grey. I tried to make pictures of that which was also a challenge. My camera started to freeze and so was I, as I needed to take of my gloves in order to handle the camera.

Although I have a motor heater in the car it decided to quit this morning. I had to go to a meeting but instead I lost a lot of time trying to get the motor started. I rang for some help but today that was out of the question. Now I have to be patient again… something I am still not used to.

Last weekend we had our first snow-scooter trip. Wow… that was really awesome. At first a bit scary to drive as it reacts totally different than a car or a motor, but how cool to drive in the woods and go to places which you normally would never reach. Spectacular views and no single person within miles around you. We were invited to have this trip with friends but now I definitely need to buy one myself ; )

As you know I have started my new job as production manager and have had some hectic weeks. I had to learn many processes and at the same time change them to something new. Within two weeks we expect to be FSC certified, meaning that we deliver certified eco friendly business cards and hotel keys. And we are working on new products like bag-tags and door hangers. Although it is a small factory are we fully equipped with the latest machines and are ready to produce thousands of cards a day.

All conversation is in Swedish, which is the best training I can get. Luckily everyone is willing to help me to improve my language skills so I get corrected all the time whenever needed.

As I told the last time I have started the SFI training again in the evening, once a week. The difference with the other students is huge but as the group isn’t that big I get some sort of individual training. I try to collect words or expressions I don’t understand and the teacher is trying to find some more technical words that might be of interest to me.
