Accommodation
You can choose to live in the city, in a nearby village or why not move to a farm in the countryside?
The options are endless, and sometimes it feels like the prices are, too. But most of the time accommodations in Jamtland are quite affordable. All across Jämtland, you get double the value—or even more!—for your money compared to buying or renting accommodations in a large European city, or other Swedish city. And not only do you get great value for your hard-earned money in regard to size and services, Jämtland’s unique, natural landscapes, relaxed environments and picturesque views are often reminiscent of pictures taken from a fairy tale!Buying your own...
There are many regions in Jämtland where you can find a large apartment, or a house on a sizeable parcel of land, at an extremely affordable price. As Jämtland has not been exploited on the same heavily populated scale as other larger cities in Sweden, home-buyers looking to purchase an apartment or house in Jämtland can expect to pay up to 75% less compared to the same size and quality of property located in Stockholm or Gothenburg, for instance. Some of the larger Jämtlandian houses can be turned into a bed-and-breakfasts, or a host of other business ideas. ... or renting
An alternative to buying your own house or apartment is to rent one. Renting is more flexible and often easier as the landlord is responsible for the maintenance costs, not the te-nant. Also, there are no large investments associated with the purchase of a house and its property.Unlike many other countries, the rental housing market in Sweden is very regulated, insuring that rental rates don’t reach astronomical levels. But to get a first-hand contract for a rental apartment in central Östersund, you will most probably have to sign a waiting-list from one or more publicly or privately owned apartment building owners, with an average waiting time of one to two years.
However, finding a rental apartment on the outskirts of Östersund, or in most rural municipalities of Jämtland, is a quick process. In addition, you will probably have more apartments to choose from, a lower monthly rent, better nature views from your windows, and the luxury of enjoying a much larger apartment.
